Current Programs
We have on-going programs for the following:


Workplace Orientation workshops.

These workshops will be offered as a joint project between ATEC and placement agencies in the private sector (Member agencies of the Association of Professional Placement Agencies of Canada).
They will focus on:

• Orientation of placement agency personnel and employers to needs, cultural contexts and educational backgrounds of client communities.

• Orientation of clients and job seekers to Canadian expectations, standards and requirements in the workplace and other social environments.

Counselling Service

This program will provide individual and group counseling, placement land more extensive referral and follow-up services for job seeking clients.

>> Computer and Language Training

ESL with Introduction to Computers and Job Search Skills:

This program offers English at the intermediate level with basic computer training and job hunting components, currently running five days a week during the day as well as afternoon and evening classes.

Language Instruction for Newcomers to Canada (LINC 2,3,4,5):

Computerized language classes with childminding on site for children of course participants. Transportation assistance is provided for this group.

>> ESL WITH COMPUTER AND JOB SEARCH TRAINING

This is a skills linked English as a Second Language Program. The program combines English at Intermediate level with basic computer training and job search. An 8-12 week placement service with private, public and non-profit sector employers is included in the program.

>> LINC

This is an English as a Second Language Program designed for newcomers. Language skills including reading, writing and speaking are taught from basic to intermediate levels. Instruction includes orientation to Canadian life and society as well as very basic computer training.
>> WORKPLACE ORIENTATION WORKSHOP (W.O.W.)

This program focuses on: Orientation for racial minorities and immigrant job seekers to standards and requirements in the workplace as well as resources for job seekers. Employment equity and cultural sensitivity training for placement agency personnel is part of the workshops.

>> COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT

The agency provides information, leadership development services and referrals on a range of community resources and services. We actively seek partnerships within the community to develop and implement programs and projects.

The Community Education and Development Program describes a sector of ATEC programming that covers all activities related to :

• The provision, development and /or distribution of information

• Training services on access issues including cultural awareness, anti-racism, organizational development and advocacy skills.

• The scope of initiatives may be either individual or organizational.
